This demonstration shows how ILOG Views Component Suite can be used to develop an organization-chart application. It uses several products of the suite:

• ILOG Views Controls for standard dialog objects, with Application Framework for standard look-and-feel including MDI, dockable toolbars, customizable interface, split windows, and recent file list management.
• ILOG Views 2D Graphics Professional, with a grapher that displays people and the connection between them. Other features of this product are used to manage user interactions, including overview and the magnifier.
• ILOG Views Graph Layout for automatic arrangement of grapher objects (nodes and links).

Downloading and removing the demonstration
Please download the ZIP file (1.1 MB).

To remove the demonstration from your PC, delete the organi.exe and orgchart.org files.

No files will be left on your hard drive.

The main window has four parts:

• Menus and toolbars
• Tree control, on the left upper part
• Organization chart display, on the right
• Overview, on the bottom left part

Tree control
You can click on a person in the tree control. This will select this person in the organization chart display and will make it visible if it is not already visible. You can click on the +/- to expand or collapse a branch of the tree.

Organization chart
You can click on a person to select them, also be selected in the tree. You can also move any person, and see that the connections will follow object movements. If you move the mouse around the border of this subwindow, the display will scroll slowly. If you press the mouse button, it scrolls quickly.

Overview
This view lets you see the whole organization chart in a small view. This is very useful when you have a complex chart that does not fit into the screen.
A red rectangle shows the visible part of the chart:

• Use the left mouse button to move this rectangle, automatically updating the organization chart to display
• Use the right mouse button to display a magnifier that lets you read the displayed information if it is too small

Menus and toolbars

This toolbar provides all the standard commands:

• New - create a new chart
• Open- open an existing chart
• Save - save current chart
• Save All - save all charts
• Print
• New Window
• Next/Previous Window
• Cascade

This toolbar contains standard editing commands:

• Cut
• Copy
• Paste
• Undo
• Redo

Here are the commands for automatic layout of the organization chart:

• Tip over layout mode - branches are arranged horizontally below the root
• Bottom and alignment to left - nodes are moved below the root and aligned on the left of the root
• Bottom and alignment to center - nodes are moved below the root and centered on the root position
• Bottom and alignment to right - nodes are moved below the root and aligned on the right of the root
