Working together on BPM
ILOG joins business process alliance
ILOG has joined the Microsoft Business Process Alliance and will collaborate on delivering the value of business rule management systems (BRMSs) to Microsoft enterprise software customers.
Already a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, ILOG expands its strategic relationship with Microsoft through the alliance, and joins an industry-leading group of independent software vendors (ISVs) that creates solutions to further enhance business process management (BPM) on the Microsoft platform.
Automating business processes
The alliance was started to promote the mainstream adoption of BPM with powerful solutions for automating business processes. Through the program, ILOG will work to develop, integrate and promote ILOG Rules for .NET with Microsoft desktop and enterprise products that include Office, BizTalk Server, SharePoint and Visual Studio.
ILOG Rules for .NET is a complete BRMS. It enables users to author and manage business rules to define decision services that can be integrated into business applications using familiar Microsoft products. This synergy increases ease of use and time to market for enterprises worldwide, especially benefiting those facing faster business cycles and aging software architectures that cannot accommodate change quickly.
"Through the alliance, we work with Microsoft and its enterprise customers worldwide to deliver cutting-edge BRMS solutions," says Larry Hunt, director strategic alliances, ILOG. "We have a strong Microsoft partnership, and our complementary technologies offer advanced rule management capabilities without custom integration."

Connectivity with webMethods
Reseller partnership expands to webMethods
ILOG’s strategic reseller partnership with Software AG for ILOG JRules has been expanded to include Software AG’s webMethods suite of business infrastructure software. Full integration of webMethods and ILOG JRules is expected in 2008, but interoperability already exists between the two products.
Reseller agreement
In 2006, Software AG (www.softwareag.com) began reselling ILOG JRules, the market-leading ILOG business rule management system (BRMS), as part of the company’s SOA product suite, which includes CentraSite, an SOA registry and repository jointly developed by Software AG and Fujitsu
“ILOG is a global BRMS leader,” says Patti Jefferies, director of BPM Product Marketing for Software AG’s webMethods business division. “This partnership enables our customers to write, manage and modify rules to better match changing business and competitive dynamics without IT assistance.”
Software AG has helped more than 4,000 customers worldwide modernize and automate their IT systems and rapidly build new ones to meet growing business demands. Its industry-leading products include solutions for managing data, enabling SOA and improving business processes.
Prima Solutions
Streamlined underwriting
With a service-oriented architecture (SOA) from ILOG partner Prima Solutions (www.prima-solutions.com) and decision services based on ILOG JRules, Western Computer Services (WCS: www.wcs-corp.com) has automated its insurance underwriting system and achieved a pass-through rate of over 80 percent, while ensuring consistent enforcement of underwriting guidelines across business units and geographies.
WCS is owned by three U.S. insurance companies. To improve its underwriting system, WCS chose Prima Platform, a Prima Solutions product, for a new SOA foundation, and ILOG JRules, the market-leading ILOG business rule management system (BRMS), to back the SOA system with rule-based decision services accessible to business users. ILOG JRules’ advanced rule management features allow WCS analysts and actuaries to create, test and deploy rules through a central repository.
"We chose ILOG JRules because of its ease of use, advanced rule management features for business and IT users, and tight integration with Prima Repository and Prima IBCS," says Phil Teagle, WCS director of application development. "By leveraging ILOG JRules with Prima Repository and Prima IBCS, we were able to shorten the time it took to build our application by 30 percent."
