IBM

Operation: Destination z
IBM has selected ILOG for its Destination z Alliance Program, which is aimed at accelerating legacy modernization initiatives for IBM zSeries customers.

IBM Destination z (www.ibm.com/systems/z/destinationz) is a community of organizations working to boost the efficiency of information technology environments. In response to growing demand for IBM System z-based decision management, ILOG recently introduced ILOG Rules for COBOL, which allows IBM customers to leverage the processing power of System z computers with both new application development and rule-based decision management fitted into existing applications.

System z is a series of powerful enterprise-class IBM mainframes. They provide key capabilities such as expanded scalability for growth and large-scale consolidation, improved security, and just-in-time capacity deployment to help respond to changing business requirements.

ISV Advantage program
IBM has also selected ILOG for its ISV Advantage program for small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMBs). ILOG’s business rule management system (BRMS) and optimization products will be promoted as part of IBM’s portfolio of leading e-business SMB solutions for industries that include insurance, banking, capital markets, healthcare and the public sector.

Many of these solutions already use ILOG JRules, the market-leading BRMS, in concert with IBM’s service-oriented architecture (SOA) frameworks, including WebSphere Business Services Fabric, WebSphere Process Server and IBM ECM.

Typically implemented by IBM Global Business Services, these joint offerings let organizations more safely manage business change in applications such as insurance policy underwriting, loan origination, claims adjudication and border security. The SMB market is a large, highly diverse sector with enormous IT potential.

Prima Solutions

Partner goes Gold at LOMA
Prima Solutions participated as a Gold Sponsor in this year’s ACORD LOMA Insurance Systems Forum, one the largest annual conferences covering both business and technology aspects of the insurance industry.

Partly owned by ILOG, Prima Solutions (www.prima-solutions.com) presented Prima IBCS V5.1, Prima Repository 5.2 and Prima Vanilla V1.0, the company’s foundation components for service-oriented insurance applications. The Prima framework is ideal for insurance organizations that want a mature, robust solution for reducing the cost, time and risk involved in implementing a service-oriented architecture (SOA) to improve business results and business agility.

Prima Solutions also used the occasion to announce the donation of its UML model to ACORD. The model will serve as the foundation of the future industry standard “Information Model.”

Held May 13-15 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the forum drew more than 2,400 attendees and 200 exhibitors. Decision makers, leading experts and innovators – many representing Fortune 500 companies – took part in more than 60 sessions, sharing insights and experience to help attending insurers optimize their business results. ILOG and Prima Solutions ILOG acquired a 33 percent stake in Prima Solutions in 2006. The purchase strengthened the partnership between the two companies, and gave the insurance solution maker greater access to ILOG’s business rule management system (BRMS) products. Prima Solutions’ domain and technical expertise in the insurance space is captured in Prima IBCS, an extensive insurance object model that makes it easier and faster for insurance carriers to build underwriting and claims processing applications. The model is designed to reduce the costs and risks associated with the deployment of a distributed SOA.

Prima IBCS is the product of several years of research and development by insurance experts and object-oriented software specialists, and documents over 100 core processes and 1,000 classes spanning life, property and casualty insurance, and reinsurance. The product combines Prima Solutions’ UML model with tooling to navigate, customize, extend and map the model, as well as generate C++, Java or ILOG JRules code.
